A PVDF aluminum veneer panel is a single-layer solid aluminum sheet (typically 1.5–4.0 mm thick) coated with a fluorocarbon-based paint system whose primary resin is polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), also known by the brand name Kynar 500®. The result is an exterior cladding panel that holds its color and gloss for 20–30 years even in coastal, polluted, or high-UV environments.
The key distinction: PVDF is not a powder coating and not a polyester paint. It is a wet-spray, oven-cured fluoropolymer system applied in 2 or 3 coats (primer + color + optional clear) at a total dry film thickness of 25–40 μm. This is why specifications often call it “2-coat PVDF” or “3-coat PVDF.”
Why “Veneer” — Not “Composite”?
Solid aluminum veneer panels are fabricated from a single sheet of aluminum, typically alloy 3003-H24, 5005, or 5052. They are different from Aluminum Composite Panels (ACP), which sandwich a polymer core between two thin aluminum skins.
For high-end facade work — especially in Europe, the GCC, and parts of North America — solid veneer is now the preferred specification because:
- Fire rating: solid aluminum is A1/A2 non-combustible by default; ACP requires special FR cores to meet EN 13501-1 A2-s1,d0 (post-Grenfell standard)
- Recyclability: 100% mono-material vs. mixed-substrate ACP
- Long-term durability: no risk of delamination between layers

PVDF vs Polyester vs Powder Coating — Performance Comparison

- UV resistance: PVDF retains ≥90% of original gloss after 4,000 hours of QUV-A accelerated weathering. Polyester typically falls to 50–60% in the same test.
- Color shift (ΔE): PVDF holds ΔE < 3 after 10 years natural exposure in Florida (AAMA 2605). Polyester can drift ΔE > 8.
- Salt-spray: PVDF passes 4,000+ hours ASTM B117 with no blistering. Polyester typically fails at 1,000–2,000 hours.
- Acid rain: PVDF unaffected. Polyester surfaces chalk and lose gloss within 5 years in heavily polluted urban environments.
When Polyester Still Makes Sense
Polyester is not “bad” — it is correctly specified for interior applications, soffits, low-budget mid-rise projects in stable climates, and temporary structures where the building will be reclad within 10 years anyway. The mistake is using it on a 30-year landmark facade.
Manufacturing Process: Inside a Specifier-Grade PVDF Panel

Every Likton PVDF aluminum veneer panel goes through 9 production stages before it ships:
- Material verification — incoming aluminum coil is checked against mill certificates for alloy (3003-H24), thickness tolerance (±0.05 mm), and surface condition.
- CNC cutting & punching — performed on Japanese AMADA CNC turret punches for hole patterns and German LFK CNC lines for sheet cutting, holding ±0.5 mm panel dimensional tolerance.
- Edge folding & corner welding — 4 sides folded on CNC press brakes; corners TIG-welded and ground flush.
- Reinforcement bonding — internal stiffeners bonded with structural adhesive (panels > 1.2 m receive aluminum bracing).
- Surface pretreatment — 7-stage chromium-free or zirconium-based conversion coating per AAMA 2605 / Qualicoat Class 3 requirements.
- PVDF spray application — primer coat → color coat → optional clear coat, electrostatic wet spray.
- Oven curing — 230 °C–250 °C peak metal temperature for 22–25 minutes.

- Packaging — protective PE film + edge-protected wooden crates for export.
The bottleneck step — and the one where most low-cost suppliers cut corners — is the pretreatment line (step 5). A weak conversion coating is invisible at delivery but causes paint failure 5–7 years later. Always ask suppliers for their conversion coating type and salt-spray test data on the coated panel.

For European projects, the EU EC REP certificate is the document most Chinese aluminum suppliers cannot produce. Under the EU’s Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and the Market Surveillance Regulation 2019/1020, non-EU manufacturers selling regulated products in the EU must appoint an Authorized European Representative. Suppliers quoting under $30/sqm for “PVDF” panels are almost always substituting cheaper polyester resin labeled as PVDF, or thinning the coating below the 25 μm minimum. The accelerated weathering test will fail within 18 months.

What is the minimum order quantity for PVDF aluminum veneer panels?
Likton’s standard MOQ is 300 sqm for warehouse-color panels; custom RAL colors typically require 500 sqm to justify the coating line setup. For sample orders or pilot projects under 100 sqm, we accept trial orders on a case-by-case basis.
How long is the production lead time?
Standard flat panels in stock colors: 25–35 days from PO confirmation. Custom shapes, perforated patterns, or special RAL colors: 35–45 days. Express production for repeat clients: 18–22 days possible at premium pricing.
Are PVDF aluminum veneer panels fire-rated?
Yes. Solid aluminum veneer panels are A1 non-combustible by EN 13501-1 by default — the metal does not burn. The PVDF coating is so thin (25–40 μm) it does not affect the classification. This is one of the major reasons solid veneer is replacing ACP in post-Grenfell European specifications.
What is the maximum panel size you can produce?
